Ondo APC Chieftain, Olabimtan Implicated In Alleged Audio Leak
By Adeola Ogunrinde.
A major crack within the APC in Ondo state is beginning to manifest as a chieftain of the party, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan who is the current Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has expressed serious reservations about the leadership style of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
In an audio recording that has gone viral, Olabimtan allegedly made uncomplimentary comments about Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and people of Akure.
In the audio obtained by Newsflo.ng, Olabimtan accused Aiyedatiwa of running the state like his personal estate, disregarding party input, and making decisions without consultations with necessary stakeholders in the state.
The audio voice also made derogatory comments about the desire of Akure people to produce the next Governor after Aiyedatiwa, calling them “unserious people who want to be governor” and implying they’re not fit to succeed Governor Aiyedatiwa.
Olabimtan allegedly stated that Akoko has the highest number of votes in Ondo State, asserting that as the state chairman of APC, he will ensure that someone from Akoko should be the next governor after Aiyedatiwa in 2029.
These comments have sparked criticisms with some questioning Olabimtan’s suitability to lead the APC in Ondo State going by his disposition to the leader of the party and other ethnic groups in the state.
It would be recalled that news broke recently about Olabimtan’s alliance with a prominent Akoko son who had shown interest in the Ondo state governorship in 2029.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the party from the North senatorial district who spoke with Newsflo.ng on condition of anonymity described the leaked audio as the most unfortunate incident in the history of political rascality in Ondo state.
He said ” the voice in the audio is unmistakable but the wisdom behind the voice is a low. I totally disagree with the former speaker for denigrating the people of Akure in the said audio. It is quite an unprovoked verbal attack on the peace- loving people of Akure”
Another chieftain of the party who also prefer anonymity said “although Olabimtan keeps suing for peace and unity in the APC, urging members to avoid personal attack, his recent comments seem to contradict this stance. Olabimtan, with this statement should forget his ambition of becoming our state chairman. It is over for him as a sectional leader who has shown so much disloyalty to our leader, the Governor and the insults against our landlord, the good people of Akure. Olabimtan’s alleged statement is recipe for anarchy in the state ” he concluded.
However, keen political watchers say this is more worrisome as activities towards the next general elections begin to gain momentum and the opposition seems to be finding solid ground to challenge the ruling party
