Nigeria’s Security Challenge: The Need For Tinted Glass Regulation
The recent clampdown on tinted glass vehicles by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is a necessary measure to combat the growing menace of insecurity in the country. The NPF’s initiative to regulate tinted glass vehicles is not only legal but also transparent, as it is backed by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.
The use of tinted glass vehicles has become a tool for criminals to commit crimes across the country. Kidnapping, armed robbery, and terrorism are just a few examples of the security challenges that Nigeria faces, and the NPF’s efforts to regulate tinted glass vehicles are aimed at tackling these issues.
The permit system is a key crime-prevention tool that will help the police to track and identify vehicles used for nefarious activities.
In these precarious times, when insecurity is on the increase, Nigerians should support the police initiative to combat the menace. The NPF’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the rule of law is evident in its efforts to regulate tinted glass vehicles.
The police are not trying to infringe on citizens’ rights but rather to safeguard fundamental rights by ensuring a safer and more secure nation.
The Nigerian Bar Association’s (NBA) decision to provide free legal services to Nigerians harassed by the police over the tinted glass permit policy is misguided. The NBA’s argument that the policy is illegal and unconstitutional is unfounded, and its claim that the police are trying to generate revenue is misleading.
The charges attached to the permits are strictly processing fees used to maintain digital infrastructure for the service, as authorised by the Nigeria Police Act 2020.
One question that begs to be answered is: what are those using tinted glass vehicles hiding? If they are law-abiding citizens, why the need for excessive tinting? The answer is simple: those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear. The use of tinted glass vehicles has become a hallmark of criminality, and it’s high time we acknowledged this reality.
We urge the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to reconsider its stance on the tinted glass policy and join forces with the Nigeria Police Force in fighting crimes in the country. The NBA’s decision to provide free legal services to those harassed by the police over the tinted glass permit policy seems misguided, given the security challenges we face. We appeal to the NBA to reason along with the police and prioritize the safety and security of Nigerians.
In times like these, we must put the greater good above individual interests. The regulation of tinted glass vehicles is not about infringing on citizens’ rights but about ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. We must support the police in their efforts to combat crime and create a safer and more secure environment for everyone.
The Nigeria Police Force’s initiative to regulate tinted glass vehicles is a necessary measure to combat insecurity in the country. Nigerians should support the NPF’s efforts to promote openness and transparency in the fight against crime.
Nigerians should rally behind the police and support their initiatives to make our country safer and more secure. The NBA should reconsider its stance and work with the police to find a solution that benefits all Nigerians.
