You Are Using State Resources To Undermine Opposition, Nenadi Usman Lashes Our At APC

0

REPORT
Newsflo.ng

By John Ossai, Abuja.

Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying various tactics, including intimidation, manipulation, and harassment, to stifle the opposition, thereby undermining democracy in the country.

She said this at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Global Award and Dinner Night in Abuja at the weekend.
She said the APC was using state institutions and resources to force the opposition to conform to its wishes.
The former Minister of Finance said that such tactics undermine democracy, particularly with the growing trend of pressuring opposition party members to defect to its fold.

“Since the emergence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the ruling party, there has been a deliberate and relentless campaign to undermine the opposition.”

“Tactics range from infiltration and co-optation to the use of state institutions for harassment, intimidation, and even judicial manipulation. The ruling party has become adept not just at consolidating power but at weakening every form of challenge to it. This is not democracy. This is domination masked as governance.

“The APC cannot in good conscience profess commitment to democratic ideals while simultaneously working to destabilise opposition parties like the Labour Party and others,” Mrs Usman represented by her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Mr Ken Eluma Asogwa, said.

She said that a system that weaponises state resources to sow discord within rival parties is not one committed to free and fair competition, but one invested in authoritarian control.

“Without a strong and functional opposition, we cannot claim to be practising democracy—only a shadow of it.

“Around the world, we have seen how opposition movements shape democratic resilience. Yet here at home, we are witnessing the slow suffocation of opposition voices—not by accident, but by design.”

She urged opposition parties in Nigeria to set aside personal ambitions, greed, and internal divisions, and instead focus on providing credible alternatives for the people.

She said, “But let me also be brutally honest: while external interference from the APC has played a role, it is not the only culprit. The opposition has too often been complicit in its own weakening.

“We must acknowledge that personal ambition, greed, and internal divisions have made us vulnerable. No amount of external sabotage can succeed if there is no internal decay. That is why I say the most potent antidote is not merely vigilance, but patriotism—genuine, uncompromising patriotism.

“When our leaders put Nigeria first—above ambition, above ego, above the lure of quick power—no ruling party can break us. It is time to stop acting like victims and start behaving like visionaries. Our role is not to whine about the state of the nation but to fight for its redemption.

“It does this country no good to operate a system where one party dominates unchecked. Even the APC, if it is wise, should understand that democracy dies not with a bang but with the silence of dissent. Once the people are left with no real alternative, the legitimacy of the entire system is at risk.

“We must call out the failures of the APC administration—its economic mismanagement, insecurity, shrinking civic space, and worsening inequality. But more importantly, we must come armed with real solutions and speak not just to the frustrations of Nigerians but to their hopes.

“Not just criticism, but conviction. Not just slogans, but substance. Not just ambition, but action.”

You Are morally Bankrupt, Shehu Sani Hits Amechi, El-Rufai

Former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Senator Shehu Sani, has replied Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna state, and a former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who recently blamed President Bola Tinubu’s policies for rising hunger and poverty in the country.

Sani accused the duo of hypocrisy and selfish political motives while describing them as architects of banditry and hunger.
Recall that El-Rufai had while speaking at Amaechi’s 60th birthday lecture in Abuja said Nigeria is being run by “urban bandits,” not the kind hiding in forests, but those holding power in the cities.
He warned that the country is off track and facing its worst crisis since 1914, urging Nigerians to vote for leaders with competence and vision.

Sani while speaking to the media in Kaduna noted that, “both El-Rufai and Amaechi have no moral ground to criticize the current administration, as they failed to address the same challenges during their time in power.”
According to him, “El-Rufai and Amaechi should bow their heads in shame. They are the architects of the banditry, poverty, and hunger they now pretend to lament. During their tenure, they did nothing to solve these issues, and now they cry foul simply because they have been left out of the current government.”
He maintained that there was nothing wrong with criticizing a government, “But when such criticism stems from personal disappointment over missed appointments rather than genuine concern for the people, it becomes dangerous.”

He further accused former officials from the Muhammadu Buhari administration of attempting to undermine Tinubu’s government after failing to secure positions in his cabinet.
“These individuals controlled the affairs of the country for eight years. They had the power, the resources, and the influence to transform the North into a socio-economic model for the rest of the country. Instead, they left it in a worse condition,” Sani lamented.
He called on Nigerians to recognize the progress, however limited, that has been made under the current government, especially in terms of security.
“Today, people can travel the Birnin Gwari road, which was once a death trap due to incessant bandit attacks. The southern part of Kaduna, once abandoned, is now relatively peaceful thanks to the efforts of the current Chief of Defence,” he noted.
While acknowledging that insecurity still persists in parts of the North, such as Katsina and Zamfara States, Sani insisted that the situation has improved compared to what existed under the previous administration.
He urged President Tinubu to do more for Northern Nigeria while also encouraging openness to criticism — as long as it’s constructive and not driven by political bitterness.
“Nigeria must learn from its past. The country will only achieve greatness when development is evenly distributed, and criticism is driven by patriotism rather than self-interest,” he said.

A man of many titles, past and gone
Ex-minister, ex-governor, a legacy worn
He jumped and sweated, with zeal and with zest
To install a president, and secure his own nest.

But when the food was ready, he was denied a seat
By the senate’s verdict, his ambitions to beat
Now he discredits the government he once did praise
A short man devil, with a heart full of maze.

He calls himself an accidental public servant, a claim to fame
But Nigerians know better, his antecedents, his shame
He should find a quiet place, to park himself with pride
For Nigerians won’t be fooled, by his hypocrisy and stride.

A cry of lamentation and scorn, for El-Rufai’s tale is one of deceit,
Claiming saintly virtue, while his actions speak defeat.
He cried foul, pointing fingers, at his party’s highest echelon,
Yet, his own integrity is questionable, a truth he cannot relinquish.

With sanctimonious zeal, he protests his innocence and purity,
But Nigerians see through the facade, the hypocrisy of his verity.
He swore he didn’t covet a position, under Tinubu’s presidency,
Now, he’s waging war, a bitter crusade, for being denied a seat.

A man who once helped build the APC, now seeks to destroy its foundation,
His actions, a betrayal, a stab in the back, a gross manifestation.
Let us watch, as he navigates this treacherous path he’s chosen,
And see how far his duplicity will carry him, before his downfall is spoken.

SPECIAL REPORT

By Adeola Ogunrinde

As Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa celebrates 100 days in office, opinions are mixed among APC party chieftains on his government’s achievements. While some praise his commitment to transparency and infrastructure development, others express concerns about the impact of his ongoing economic reforms on the state’s residents.

Governor Ayedatiwa was sworn in on 24th of February, 2025 having been overwhelmingly elected by the people of Ondo State in a one-way contest.

Newsflo.ng went round to sample opinions of APC Stalwarts and stakeholders in the state on performance of the Governor, so far.

Hon. Barr. Gbenga Olaniyi, a former commissioner, highlighted the governor’s achievements, including the employment of over 2,000 unemployed youths in the teaching profession, operation light up Ondo state, road rehabilitations and promulgation of laws that ensured peace and tranquillity in the state.

Another chieftain and ex Commissioner Hon. Idowu Otetubi, praised the governor on infrastructure development, citing the rehabilitation of roads in Akure and Idanre. He expressed confidence that the governor’s government would deliver on its promises and build a better future for the state.

However, not all party chieftains were forthcoming with their opinions. Some, like Hon. Ademola Ijabiyi, expressed skepticism about the government’s transparency and accountability, stating that they didn’t know anything about the government’s finances or projects.

Dr. Soji Ehinlanwo, the Ogwagbeminuyi of Owo kingdom, who was also celebrating his 60th birthday, declined to comment on the governor’s performance, stating that 100 days is not enough to give a fair analysis of any government’s performance.

Dr. Akeredolu O.N, a serving Board member, contended that Governor Aiyedatiwa has been in office for over 15 months, counting from his assumption of office in December 2023 as acting governor. He expressed mixed feelings with the governor’s performance so far.

For Engr. Oladapo Oyedele, the governor’s efforts to put infrastructure in place must be acknowledged and applauded. He, however, suggested that the Governor needs to form an intellectually backed cabinet to take the state to a modern space. He also emphasized the need for industrial and agricultural revolution to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the state.

Hon. Ojo Wande, a veteran journalist, made a sarcastic remark about the government’s performance, saying that the governor is doing well by commissioning rehabilitated roads, which he described as a “repairer” of roads.

Tomiwa Aregbesola expressed delight in sharing his thoughts on Governor Aiyedatiwa’s performance, highlighting his commitment to transparency and accountability. He praised the governor’s efforts to stimulate economic growth and development in the state.

Prince Banjo Adesida disagreed with the notion that Governor Aiyedatiwa is celebrating 100 days in office, stating that he has been in office since December 2023, and he has not done badly. He emphasized the need for the governor to constitute his cabinet on time to hit the ground running.

A staunch Anti-Corruption Activist and Special Assistant to the Governor, Prince Nelson Mafo while speaking to Newsflo.ng said Governor Ayedatiwa is an exceptional performer who has shown unprecedented prospects to leave an enduring legacy in Ondo State. “You might not notice this, this is the first time in the history of Ondo State that a government is investigating itself. For your information, I remember you people (referring to Newsflo.ng) broke the news of the alleged racketeering in the last employment in SUBEB and TESCOM and you are also aware that the Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crime And Anti-Corruption Commission (SPFACC) have stepped in and investigating the allegations. You will also recall that the same SPFACC is probing the allegation of mismanagement and conversion of over #800m OSOPADEC fund. There are so many other government departments undergoing SFPACC investigation. This Governor have used none of his enormous powers to suppress, stop or scuttle these investigations”
Mafo went on to say that, this shows “the Governor’s passion for accountability and transparency which are the main cardinal hallmarks of good governance. So far, so very good. Ayedatiwa is a project man, a welfarist and promise keeper. I assure you, this is the real definition of government of the people by the people and for the people”

Meanwhile, Newsflo.ng went to town to verify some of the claims of government mouthpiece, it was gathered that most of the abandoned road projects; like the Oda, Ijoka roads, the Onyearugbulem overhead bridge have all been on resuscitated back on track. New projects have been flagged off in addition to more than thirty kilometers rehabilitated township roads across the state. 2100 primary and secondary school teachers were recruited.
Newsflo.ng source also confirmed various empowerment, welfare programs and Special policies that enhances transparency in public procurement.

As the governor celebrates 100 days in office, many residents of the state are expressing hunger and anger due to the economic reforms orchestrated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The reforms have led to increased prices of goods and services, making life challenging for many residents.

Governor Aiyedatiwa’s 100 days in office have been marked by both achievements and challenges. While some party chieftains praise his government’s efforts, others express concerns about the impact of economic reforms on the state’s residents. As the governor continues in office, it remains to be seen how he will address the challenges facing the state and deliver on his promises to the people.

The opinions of the APC party chieftains highlight the diversity of perspectives on Governor Aiyedatiwa’s performance. While some praise his achievements, others criticize his government’s policies and call for improvement.

As Governor Aiyedatiwa looks to the future, he will need to address the challenges facing the state and deliver on his promises to the people. The opinions of the party chieftains will likely play a crucial role in shaping his policies and decisions.

Assessing the performance of a government is a complex task that requires careful consideration of various factors. While some party chieftains have praised Governor Aiyedatiwa’s efforts, others have expressed concerns about the impact of his policies on the state’s residents.

The way forward for Governor Aiyedatiwa’s government will depend on its ability to address the challenges facing the state and deliver on its promises. The opinions of the party chieftains will be crucial in shaping the government’s policies and decisions.

Parent Hires Thugs To Assault Vice Principal As Exams Malpractices Fight Back

Newsflo.ng

In a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread concern, a Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College in Akure, Ondo State, was brutally beaten by students and their family members for doing his job. The incident, which occurred during the ongoing West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) exams, has highlighted the dangers and menaces that educators and school administrators face in the line of duty.

According to a preliminary report of the state government’s investigation, the Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, prevented a student from cheating during the exam, which led to a confrontation with the student’s mother and brother. The mother reportedly came to the school to fight with the school management, and the brother, an old student of the school, later came to harass the Vice Principal and threatened to deal with him.

After school hours, the boys were seen loitering in the street, and the proprietor was informed. He told Mr. Rotifa to go to the police station to lodge a complaint. When the police took Mr. Rotifa in their van to look for the boys, they couldn’t get them. However, on their way back to the station, the boys waylaid the Police Van, brought out Mr. Rotifa, and beat him to pop.

However, state authorities are said to have waded in and four of the perpetrators are already cooling off in police custody.

We appreciate the prompt attention given to this matter by the Nigeria Police, who have taken charge of the case and made some arrests. Their efforts to ensure the safety of the staff and students are commendable.

Government at all levels has a serious role to play in arresting this examination menace this moment before it finally gets to a stage when thugs will start invading exam centres to carry away question papers and returning them at the close of the exercise.

Newsflo.ng raised the alarm of brazen examination malpractices in some private schools and rural centers during the last year WASCE in seven LGAs of Ondo State.

The Ministries of Youth and Social Development, as well as Women Affairs and Social Services, have a lot to do in this regard. Social re-engaging, rehabilitating, and reengineering are very pertinent at this moment. These ministries can work together to develop programs that promote positive values and behaviors among young people.

This incident is a wake-up call for all stakeholders in the education sector to take a closer look at the values and culture that are being promoted in our schools. We must ensure that educators and school administrators are protected and supported in their place of work. The safety and well-being of our teachers and students are crucial to the future of our society.

To prevent such incidents in the future, it is essential to ensure that schools are safe and secured environments for both students and staff. This can be achieved through a combination of measures, including increased security, counseling, and education on conflict resolution.

Parents also have a crucial role to play in promoting a culture of respect, moral and ethical discipline in schools. Supporting teachers and administrators. Parents will help create an environment that is conducive to learning and growth.

Accountability is key to preventing such incidents. Those who engage in violence or intimidation must be held accountable for their actions. This will help to create a culture of responsibility and respect for authority.

Educators play a vital role in shaping the future of our society. It is pertinent that they are protected and supported even though many of public and private schools principals charge as much as 70,000 per student as “help money”

Creating a culture of respect in schools requires a collective effort. By promoting values such as discipline, hard work, and respect for authority, we can create an environment that is conducive to learning and growth.

Moving forward, it is essential that we take a closer look at the root causes of such incidents and work towards creating a safer and more supportive environment for our educators and students. This will require a collaborative effort from all stakeholders, including government, parents, and educators.

The safety and well-being of our teachers and students are crucial to the future of our society. By promoting values such as discipline, hard work, and respect for authority, we can create a brighter future for our children and our society.

Today’s parenting is a major setback for the society. There is no more social order. Discipline and moral teachings are supposed to originate from the homes. This is lacking and the result is the moral chaos and anarchy among today’s youth. The culture of hardwork is already eroded. Cutting corners as in the present case is now the order of the day.

Whether the authorities will take a crucial cue from this ugly incident and take an extra harsh decision to forestall future occurrence remains to be seen.

Dino Melaye Vs Charly Boy: A Study In Contrasts

0

OPINION
Newsflo.ng

By Ajalekoko Moses

In the land of Nigeria, where drama never ends,
A feud brewed between two men, with egos that contend.
Senator Dino Melaye, a man of wealth and fame,
Charly Boy, a critic, with a message to proclaim.

Charly Boy spoke out, against Dino’s display,
Of wealth and luxury, in a nation in disarray.
He said, “Not all mental illnesses are discernible, you see,”
Dino’s flaunting of wealth, may be a sign of anxiety.

But Dino wouldn’t take it, he clapped back with flair,
Called Charly Boy a bad son, with a destiny impaired.
He mocked his living conditions, and his bike so fine,
Said he’s just trying to gain relevance, with a name that’s divine, Oputa.

The society expects, its leaders to be wise,
To conduct themselves, with dignity and poise.
But Dino’s behavior, is more like a yahoo boy’s play,
Flaunting wealth, in the midst of suffering, every day.

Imagine the mentality, of many leaders today,
Dino Melaye’s actions, are a perfect display.
Of a man who’s lost touch, with the struggles of the land,
And only cares about, his own wealth and grand plan.

Charly Boy’s message, was clear and concise,
That Dino’s behavior, is not what a statesman should imply.
He’s right, the society needs, leaders who are humble and kind,
Not ones who flaunt their wealth, and leave the poor behind.

Dino called Charly Boy, a prodigal son, oh so unkind,
But maybe he’s the one, who’s lost his way, and left behind.
The path of humility, and service to the land,
Is one that Dino needs, to take a stand.

Charly Boy’s roof may leak, but his heart is pure,
He speaks the truth, without a single allure.
Dino’s wealth may shine, but his words are cold,
Charly Boy’s message, is one that Nigerians are told.

Dino, be careful, your words have consequences too,
Charly Boy’s message, is one that’s true.
You’re a senator, a leader of the land,
Act like one, and take a stand.

The bike in front of Charly Boy’s house, may seem like a show,
But it’s nothing compared, to Dino’s wealth and glow.
The difference is, Charly Boy’s not pretending to be,
Something he’s not, unlike Dino, who’s lost in his spree.

Maybe Dino’s wealth, can’t fill the void inside,
Maybe he’s clinically depressed, and can’t hide.
Charly Boy’s words, were a message of love,
But Dino’s response, was one sent from above.

Charly Boy’s destiny, may be in a freezer, it’s true,
But Dino’s actions, are the ones that are frozen in time, it’s new.
He’s stuck in his ways, and can’t seem to change,
A leader who’s lost touch, with the people’s range.

The feud between Dino and Charly Boy, is one that’s quite a show,
A display of egos, and personalities that glow.
But in the end, it’s the people, who’ll judge and decide,
Who’s right, and who’s wrong, and who’s on the side.

Let’s hope Dino learns, from Charly Boy’s message so fine,
And takes a step back, to re-evaluate his shine.
For a leader’s greatness, is not measured by wealth,
But by the positive impact, they have on the people’s health.

SPFACC Set To Probe Alleged Corruption In Ondo State TESCOM and SUBEB Recruitments

0

EXCLUSIVE REPORT
Newsflo.ng

By Adeola Ogunrinde

The Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes, and Anti-Corruption Commission (SPFACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of trading of employment slots against Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

According to sources, the alleged scandal involves candidates paying between ₦200,000 to ₦750,000 to secure teaching positions in the two state establishments.

The Ondo State government had approved the recruitment of 2000 teachers for both secondary and primary schools in the state early this year.

Newsflo.ng gathered that the good intention of the state government was mudded by some officials who seized the opportunity to sleaze desperate job seekers.

When contacted on telephone, the anti-corruption commission secretary, Prof. Adewole Adeyeye, confirmed the story and assured that the investigation would be thorough to protect the integrity of the government of His Excellency Lucky Aiyedatiwa. This development has raised concerns about the quality of education in the state, as unqualified individuals may have been employed based on their ability to pay rather than on merit.

Newsflo.ng efforts to reach both Chairmen of TESCOM and SUBEB was fruitless as they declined our reporters’ call.

The decay in the educational sector has been a pressing issue , with many schools lacking qualified teachers. The alleged corrupt practice in TESCOM and SUBEB recruitments will further stall the growth of education in the state because when individuals pay their way into teaching positions, it’s unlikely they will be committed to the system.

The teaching profession seems to be neglected and relegated in Ondo State. Unlike other ministries where children and wards of retiring staff members are often appointed to replace their parents, teachers face a different reality. Many qualified teachers who graduated over 14 years ago are still waiting for employment opportunities.

The SPFACC’s investigation is a step in the right direction. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa must take decisive action to address this anomaly and ensure that the teaching profession is valued and respected. The state’s education sector needs qualified and dedicated teachers to thrive.

Recently, Ondo State TESCOM and SUBEB conducted recruitment exercises for teaching positions. In 2025, SUBEB released a final list of 1,100 recruited teachers for public primary schools. TESCOM also conducted a recruitment exercise for secondary school teachers.

To qualify for teaching positions in Ondo State, candidates typically need to have five O’Level credits, a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), or a degree in Education.

The investigation into the alleged buying and selling of employment slots in Ondo State TESCOM and SUBEB is crucial. If proven to be true, it would undermine the integrity of the education system. The state government must take decisive action to address this issue and ensure that qualified teachers are employed based on merit, not by the size of their pockets.

In a media interaction with Newsflo.ng, Dr. Tayo Oloba, Director of Research and Strategy for Network of CSOs Against Corruption-NECAC emphasized the need for the commission to take the allegations seriously. He outlined key areas of focus for the investigation, including “ensuring transparency in the recruitment process, holding those guilty of corruption in the process accountable, and prioritizing merit-based employment”

Dr. Oloba also stressed the importance of addressing teacher welfare, particularly “the payment of gratuities to retired teachers. By taking these steps, the government can help restore integrity to the education system and ensure that qualified teachers are employed to provide quality education for the future generations of the state “

Tension In Plateau as Herders, Cattle Are Killed In Renewed Attack

0

At least four herders and nine cows were reportedly killed, while several houses were set ablaze in two separate attacks in Bokkos and Bassa LGAs of Plateau State, Tuesday.

Five other people, including women, sustained injuries during the attacks and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Bokkos.

The incidents occurred just hours after an earlier attack in which seven members of a family were killed in the Kopmur community, Mushere District of Bokkos.

There were reported case of killing of a clergyman, Reverend Mikang Lekyil, who was shot dead by suspected kidnappers in Kwakas.
Two women, including the reverend’s wife, were also injured in the attack.

The clergyman’s murder allegedly sparked a spontaneous reaction with the burning of a Fulani settlement in the Dingak community.

On Tuesday alone, seven people were reportedly killed in Kopmur, adding to the growing unrest.

Speaking with reporters on the renewed violence, the Plateau State chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, confirmed that one of the attacks took place in Tangoron, Bassa LGA, while the second occurred in Mushere, Bokkos LGA.

He said gunmen killed a herder and opened fire on grazing cattle, resulting in the killing of nine animals.

He said he had visited the scene and informed the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and the state police command, who call for calm.

Also reacting, the state chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), Garba Abdullahi, condemned the killings and urged security agencies to launch a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

However, there is no response yet from spokespersons for Operation Safe Haven, Major Samson Zhakom, and the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred.

Meanwhile, commenting on the development, the Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), Farmasum Fuddang, claimed that reported killings of herders in Mushere Central may be an attempt to divert attention from previous attacks allegedly carried out by herders on farming communities.

“If such an incident occurred, they should report it to the appropriate security agencies. Making such claims only points to their culpability in previous attacks on our people,” he said.
