President Tinubu Assures Northern Christians Of Fairness, Security, And Economic Growth

    By Oyewumi Adeniyi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring fairness and inclusivity for all Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity. Speaking at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, on October 4, 2025, Tinubu declared, “I have a mission to unite this country, ensure its prosperity, and we are making progress”.

President Tinubu assured Christian communities in Northern Nigeria of his administration’s dedication to equitable treatment across all faiths. He however vowed to tackle terrorism, banditry, and farmer-herder conflicts, stating, “We are defeating bandits, and we will defeat them. We will deal with them and combat the farmers-herders clashes”. The President emphasized his administration’s efforts to revamp the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.

During the funeral prayers for Nana Lydia Yilwatda, mother of APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Tinubu praised her as a devoted mother and humanitarian. He also reflected on his own interfaith family, saying, “In our family, we have a strong Muslim background, and I married a Christian—a pastor for that matter—and I have never forced her to change her religion”.

Reverend Dr. Amos Mohzo, President and Spiritual Leader of COCIN, thanked President Tinubu for appointing Northern Christians to key positions, such as Senator George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Mohzo urged the President to assist victims of conflict in Benue and facilitate the safe return of displaced Christian communities from insurgency-affected areas in Borno and Adamawa.

The funeral prayer was attended by prominent figures, including:
    Senate President, Godswill Akpabio,
Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum, AbdulRazaq Abdulrahman, National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume and many notable personalities in the country

These leaders underscored the significance of the occasion and the President’s commitment to unity and fairness.
